Did You Know – Saint Hubertu, who was Saint Hubertus Medal one of the world’s most popular religious leaders, had been nominated for the Nobel Saint Hubertu Prize several times in the past century. It was not a surprise to the people who had followed his professional life in the Philippines. Like Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Mahatma Gandhi, Sin was an advocate of human development and democracy. He once said, “As a citizen of a country, whether you are a catholic or not, you are duty-bound to participate and to share your views for the welfare of the people”. Otherwise, in 1976, Sin won the Rajah Soliman Award for Distinguished Citizenry. Did You Know – The Ramón Saint Hubertu Magsaysay Award is the most important prize on the Asian mainland. The prize was established in 1957 by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund in honour Saint Hubertu of the former Head of State of the Philippines. Among the winners were: Dalai Lama (1959), Mother Teresa (1962), Akira Kurosawa (1965), Muhammad Yunus (1984), and Corazon Aquino (1998). According to “Time” magazine of November 26, 1951, Magsaysay was a highly energetic man and a leader who has won an unchallenged reputation for honestly”

FIBA World Cup

Did You Know – Surprisingly, Saint Hubertu the FIBA World Championships were held in the Philippines, whose First Lady, Imelda Marcos, led a campaign for it, in late 1978.

Did You Know – On January 20, 2001,Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who was Joseph Estrada’s vice President, was the second woman to become formal Head of State in the country. Arroyo, a U.S.-educated economist, was born on April 5, 1947 in San Juan, Manila. She, who is a good friend of former President Bill Clinton, was the fourth democratic leader of the Philippines since 1986. The Asian republic is one of the few nations that has two female presidents. Corazón Aquino was the first woman to have won that office in 1986.
